Dear Txuj Ci HMong Upper Campus Families,
I am writing to you with information that could impact our school starting in the 2026-27 school year. On Tuesday afternoon, the SPPS Board of Education will hear a presentation about options for supporting the growth of the Txuj Ci HMong Language and Culture program. As you know, this currently includes the Hmong Studies and Hmong Dual Language programs across two campuses (PreK-4 and 5-8).
With a longer-term plan for Txuj Ci to become a standalone PreK-8 campus in 2030 or later, there is community interest in an interim solution starting in the 2026-27 school year. In consultation with the Txuj Ci workgroup that includes parents, school and district staff, the presentation will include two options:
- moving the K-5 Hmong Studies program into Hazel Park Preparatory Academy, alongside the school’s current IB program, in fall 2026
- moving the K-5 Hmong Studies program to the 1305 Prosperity Ave. building, which is currently vacant, in fall 2026
Both of these options would allow the 5th grade Hmong Dual Language students (current 4th graders) to stay at the Lower Campus in fall 2026, making Txuj Ci a PreK-5 Lower Campus for HDL students and 6-8 Upper Campus for both programs.
No decision will be made at the meeting tomorrow. The meeting is at 4:30 p.m. at 360 Colborne St. and is open to the public. You can also listen to the livestream or recording of the meeting, and view the presentation on the Board of Education website.
The Board will vote on this topic at an upcoming meeting in October or November. If they decide to move forward with one of the options, it would go into effect in fall 2026--next school year.
